Ella loves being a proud big sister to newborn, Josh and came to visit for a photo session. The weather was gorgeous and we used parts of my backyard to get some different shots. Josh was great-- he didn't make a peep throughout the session and I look forward to the next session when he's sitting up. It will be here before you know it! These lazy summer days fly by!
It's been a baby tsunami when it comes to my group of friends. I went to Julie and Matt's house to do this session and we literally did it in one corner of one room because it had beautiful window light! Tommy, proud big brother, was very eager to show off Charlie Finn (and show me how he could hold him) but Tommy was also very excited to ham it up a little on his own.
Bethany and I had a plan-- we wanted a session that would be quick to keep Patrick's attention and also quick to avoid the impending rain clouds above. We met at the park one day after school and it was almost empty- a rare thing for a spring day! We were able to get a few different looks within the same 500 square feet. Add in the blooming cherry blossoms and it was the perfect 1 year old session!
When Melissa called me to photograph her daughter's first birthday, I couldn't help but be not-so-secretly thrilled. Everything Melissa does is with an eye for detail and flair. I knew her daughters would be adorably dressed and excited for their session. Her oldest asked for days in advance, "when is the photographer getting here to take my picture?!?" Needless to say, it made my job very easy since both of them were perfectly behaved, smiley and full of energy for the multiple places we moved them for a variety of "looks." We went from dressy to cake smashing and I loved it!
I love these people. Seriously. Matt did my awesome Mother's Day photos, which you can see on his blog. Side note: If you need your wedding photos taken, check out Blueflash. You won't be disappointed. Matt's got a ridiculous eye for detail, color and fun. While we were out for my session, I asked if they wanted a few family photos. They were game and conveniently, I had my camera with me (mostly because I knew Tara would wear something adorable and striped and I couldn't pass up the photographic opportunity. She is just so darn cute all the time). Ezra, their son, had found a giant stick that somehow managed to make its way into their family photos. As I quoted that day, "Speak softly and carry a big stick during a family photo." What I love most about these few photos is that they are real. They are squirmy toddlers, grinning babies, doting dads and laughing moms. That's what photography is all about. The here, the now and the opposite of a perfectly posed, everyone-sitting-still photo. I've shot family photos for Tara and Matt three times and they said they loved these best because they are the Celeste family. Just as they are.
Bella's auntie works for my husband and was SO excited to book a one year cake smash for her. She called and said she was going to help shop for the outfit and help make the owl cake! Now THAT'S an aunt :) Bella was an absolute doll and had an awesome time sitting in a suitcase. The funny part was when she wasn't sure how she felt about the cake and very gingerly picked a piece off before deciding that yes, yes indeed, she would smash that cake!
Emma and the boys are some of my favorite subjects. They are the most well behaved, adorable, friendly kids you could ever hope to meet. An interesting part of this session was getting to see the C family's backyard in a new way. This year, for their Easter portraits, I wanted to make sure I was looking at things in a little bit different of a way so their photos did not totally match their holiday photos from last year. We took the pictures at a later time of day so the light was different and this time I used the side of the house as a way to get a more natural background. The biggest compliment I was received was from their Grandma who asked where I took the photos! I love this family and can't wait to keep photographing them and all of their milestones as they grow.
Sosi is Emmett's little gal pal. He loves Sosi and was very excited that she came to have a little cake smash for her first birthday. Being so close to Easter, it seemed totally necessary to dress her up in the pinkest little dress and have her play with some Easter eggs! She also had a great time digging into her cake. The best part was when her mom put the cake down and she immediately chowed down. Sosi didn't need any instructions on how to get to the good stuff!
The theme of Ryan's cake smash was "Me Want Cookies!" His aunt made the adorable Cookie Monster cake but prior to digging in, we met outside to do a few photos. Ryan's mom was telling me that he does not sit still at all but he was perfect! He sat down to read his books, look at the ducks, and watched his sister play. It was such a fun, laid back session. I look forward to photographing his sister's 3rd birthday soon!
It really does seem like just a few months ago that I was photographing Isla's arrival. Her one year session took place on a beautiful almost-spring-day and although our best laid plans of a bunch in the studio went out the window, we soon found that she all she wanted was literally the window. As she looked at the birds, we had the opportunity to get some adorable shots…as well as a few studio shots with her favorite thing- a giant hat and wrapping paper!
Frankie and her brother Logan came to visit and brought a cake to celebrate Frankie's first birthday! Frankie has a wonderful personality and enjoyed sitting in my rocking chair so much that it made taking her picture a breeze. Logan brought out his best silly antics and her smile shows how much she adores her big bro!
Kate, the genius behind Kate Caito Parties, BUILT this little hot cocoa stand for me. I was totally in awe when I saw it. She just whipped it up in an afternoon (or crafternoon as I like to say). I had to get some family pictures for her in front of it. Once again, these photos were done in about 15 minutes. When photographing toddlers, it is important to keep in mind the attention span and what photos you want most. If a family shot is what you're going for, I prioritize by making sure that's the shot we get first to make sure you walk away being completely satisfied that we have captured what you want.
Maria was the winner of a free session that I donated to the Cranston Bulldog League. She wanted to get her Christmas card photos done when the leaves were still colorful and vibrant. We met after school one day, just as the sun was sinking and I think this is one of my favorite family sessions. Maria made three large canvases for her living room and it's an important reminder to everyone that while digital files are awesome to have, the photos need to be out on the wall to be enjoyed. If they are on a flashdrive somewhere in your junk drawer, they aren't doing you any good! Get them out, get those files printed or better yet, let me suggest some ideas. I'm happy to help you decide on sizes, shapes and locations. Your photos are dying to be showcased!
I love when a mom is so laid back. Kelly had the idea for a few outfits but was open to my suggestions for Sosi's 6 month photos. I think it is really important to do 6 month photos and not just because I'm a photographer! It's great to look back on 6 month photos, where they are sitting up and smiling so much and not moving! It does help when they aren't crawling or walking yet since once they are, my strategies for photography have to change...but at 6 months, you can do up the background any way you want, add and take away props quickly and change outfits without so much as a peep from the babies- just lots and lots of smiles! I'm gearing up to do Sosi's one year photos soon and we've got big things planned :)
This little one flew over 2,000 miles to come visit me...alright, I admit, they were going to a wedding BUT Deb did make sure to come visit for photos. Lucas was only a few months old at the time (I'm SO impressed with Deb flying with him to Boston) but we were able to get some great shots of him, as is with no props or anything to distract from his beautiful face and little newborn cheeks!
This session is incredibly special to me because Braylon is my friend Kelli's son. Bray was born without a tibia or fibia. Instead of being overwhelmed by the situation, Kelli and Mike chose to devote their lives to making sure that Bray lives life to the fullest and never feels that he cannot complete something because he doesn't have legs. Kelli calls it a "diffability." This means that he's overcoming life's obstacles in a different way...and from my perspective, with a large dose of personality to boot! He was recently featured in a Super Bowl ad and one of these photos won Photo of the Week at I Heart Faces. I was really honored. The link to the video is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SbRhiy0NryQ and if you ever want to support an excellent charity, the Challenged Athletes Foundation is the one to choose!
When Kelly received these photos, she could not stop laughing at what she called "the fairy in the woods" photo. Isla sat on that little tree stump like a champ! We split this session up into two ideas- one inside because it was really hot out and then a few at a nearby park. I like that type of session because even if the outfits are the same, it gives you a different feel. I'm now booking for June and beyond. Use the contact tab on the left if you are interested in having your photos done this year! It's never too early to book and right now, April and May are fully booked.
