Chelsey and Josh- Cranston, RI Engagement Photography

Beware. This post is full of photos. I can't help it. We had so much fun taking them that it was hard to narrow it down. Chelsey has done my nails for quite a few years and we have been talking about photos for just as long. She and I consulted a lot about what we were going to do for her engagement photos and with a few simple props, we really captured some great moments. We did find out, however, that if you open a bottle of white wine in the woods, you will attract every bug in a two mile radium. Just a warning for every wine lover out there :) IMG_0203

The D Family- Cranston, RI Portrait Photography

Maria was the winner of a free session that I donated to the Cranston Bulldog League. She wanted to get her Christmas card photos done when the leaves were still colorful and vibrant. We met after school one day, just as the sun was sinking and I think this is one of my favorite family sessions. Maria made three large canvases for her living room and it's an important reminder to everyone that while digital files are awesome to have, the photos need to be out on the wall to be enjoyed. If they are on a flashdrive somewhere in your junk drawer, they aren't doing you any good! Get them out, get those files printed or better yet, let me suggest some ideas. I'm happy to help you decide on sizes, shapes and locations. Your photos are dying to be showcased! IMG_3624

The B Family- Lincoln, RI Family Portraits, Lincoln, RI Portrait Photography

The B Family moved to RI in the summer and were preparing for a long winter ahead. They are not used to this kind of weather...so maybe posting this blog post about 6 months after their photos will help remind them that Rhode Island is warm at some points during the year! I once again apologize for being so behind on blogging. I'd say it was my New Year's resolution but considering it is February, I already broke it :) Talk about cuteness overload for this session. It's really hard to narrow down a blog post to just a few photos so I'm going all out on this one... IMG_0378

Miss V is 18 Months- Cranston, RI Children's Photography, Johnston, RI Portrait Photography

Violet and Emmett were due on the same day and born 8 days apart so I have really enjoyed seeing them grow up together. Big brother Shea wore his fishing boots to this occasion because there was a little promise of getting to stomp in the water at the end of the session. Mission accomplished! IMG_0584

Ken and the Boys- Rhode Island Family Photography

I love when a dad plans a photo session- especially when he has a special idea of what he wants to do to capture the relationship he has with his boys. It doesn't hurt that he had keys to the local stadium and we got to spend the afternoon throwing touchdowns and trying on dad's gear. If the soccer team hadn't come in to practice, we may have stayed all night!

Matt, Tara, Ezra and who we now know as Baby Finn!

As I mentioned in a previous post, Matt and I swapped some family shots this summer and these are just a few of my good friends. It was hot, muggy and humid. Tara was a champ and has since gone on to have Finn- a perfect little brother for Ez. Note the headless shots. They are what I call a "Blueflash." IMG_3765

Matt from Blueflash Photography is a great friend of mine and we decided to swap some family sessions. In addition, we asked Amanda to come along and bring her family. She works with Matt at Blueflash. We caught some great light and a perfect day. Here are some of my favorites of the very animated, very fun M Family! IMG_7454

The R Family- Narragansett, RI Family Photography

This summer, I had one week where I had three sessions in one week in Narragansett. I should have camped out in a tent and stayed for all seven days! Laura and I connected about six months earlier when her family decided to rent a beach house in Rhode Island. We decided on a 7 am start time to guarantee the beach wouldn't be crammed and the light, waves, beach were in our favor. It was perfect! Later that day, Laura emailed this to me: "My family can't stop talking about how much they love you and what a great job you did!" Thanks, Laura! I hope we get to do this again! I would like to apologize for showing beach photos when it is freezing cold out today. I'm about 30 sessions behind on blogging (shame on me...) including five weddings. Yikes. Until I'm caught up, bask in the rays and memories of summer for a moment!

The S Family

Carolyn is one of my favorite teachers in the world. I worked with her at Cole and she is truly the definition of a great teacher. When we worked together, I remember how badly she wanted to start a family and just a few years later, she, along with Tim, have three adorable girls. We used land they own in West Greenwich on a damp and drizzly night but the color scheme made everything seem as bright as a summer day.

Carolyn had emailed me about a mini-session spot but unfortunately, I was all booked so we decided to do a full family session in their backyard. Her backyard had the most perfect, beautiful lilac bushes. It was like they had grown with the intent of becoming a photo backdrop! In home sessions are great- kids are familiar with their surroundings and these two awesome kids gave me all the smiles I needed. IMG_0250

Kelly, Rip and Isla- Rhode Island Lifestyle Newborn Portraits

Newborn photography is such a specialized field- you have to be a photographer and baby whisperer at the same time. I wanted to try a few new things and do an in-home newborn portrait since being home with a baby is enough work as it is :) Thanks Kelly and Rip for allowing me to spend the afternoon with you and that little doll- Isla Wednesday.

Tommy's Cake Smash-- Cranston, RI Cake Smash, Cranston, RI Children's Portraiture

Tommy may not have been feeling well the day of his cake smash, but he powered through (coincidentally, he did the same thing my son did- he enjoyed smearing the frosting but not necessarily eating the cake ha ha!). Nothing makes a little cold fade faster than the magic of sprinkles! Julie, Tommy's mom, made the cake and the banner and his grandmother sewed the outfit. It was the perfect combo of color and creativity and made this session stand out! We also did a few photos of Tommy in a handsome outfit...stay tuned for those.

Up Close and Personal- Cranston, RI Portrait Photography, Rhode Island Portrait Photography

Many people ask me what props they should bring to a photo shoot. I think that props can help tell the story of your child at a certain age. You will love looking back in twenty years and seeing photos of your baby with their favorite stuffed animal...but at the same time, I'm a fan of minimalist portraits. I love getting a crisp, clean portrait of a child's face. Look at these little cuties who allowed me to capture them, just as they are.

Winter Portraits- Cranston, RI and Rhode Island Children's Portraits

Although it is so cold out that I insist on warming my car for the three minute drive to work, there seems to be no stopping my outdoor sessions in November, December and January. You might think it would not be an ideal time of year for portraits but I've had lots of luck in the cold weather. First of all, kids LOVE to play outside and this gives them an opportunity to do so for a little bit. I've also had kids who thought it was the coolest to get to take their coat off for a few pictures. I mean, really, who is allowed to go out in the cold with no coat? That's good stuff! Also, the snow makes for a beautiful background. Here are a few cold winter pics that I've done to show how pretty the "brrrrrr" of January really can be! I'm currently booking outdoor portraits at a location of your choice. C'mon! Let's get out in the snow!

Nana and Her Girls- Cranston, RI Portrait Photography, Rhode Island Children's Photography

Rosie (another teacher!!) had her nieces visiting from Utah and asked me to photograph them with her sister and her mother. Her mom, now 80, knitted these delicate and colorful sweaters for the girls. We went down near the water in Edgewood on a beautiful day Thanksgiving weekend and did some portraits of the girls with their Nana. It was beautiful to see these three generations together. Give me twenty minutes... Cranston, RI Children's Photography

I've been practicing the fine art of the "20 minute toddler session!" I've come to realize that you've got about three minutes of actual "posing" time (if you consider "where would you like to stand?" posing) with two year olds, ha ha! Amy, my oldest friend from back in the 'hood of Scotland Road, has two adorable munchkins (that we actually bribed with munchkins) and we worked some magic to get fluffy snowflakes during our twenty minute session. This is my third session with them so in addition to feeling like they've grown up before my lens, I am so fortunate to know that Emmett has some buddies-in-the-making with Natalie and Ryan. One can only hope they come up with dance routines, tin can phones and a music band with homemade instruments like Amy, Rob and I did way back when.

The "C" Family- Cranston, RI Portrait Photography and Cranston, RI Children's Photography, Cranston, RI Christmas Photos

I think that being a teacher is one of the greatest jobs in the world (photographer, a close second!). I work with the nicest people and have had the opportunity to capture my colleague's kids time and time again. It's such a honor to know all of these people outside of the classroom, especially after seeing the magic they work in the classroom. Diane was the first person at my new school to reach out and want to collaborate in the library with me so this one is extra close to my heart. IMG_0081  IMG_0106

Corey, Jill and Leo- Rhode Island Family Portraits

On the brink of the hurricane, this fearless family met up with me at the park for some photos. They were so relaxed, having lots of fun and Leo did a great job posing. Sometimes three year olds become shy but Leo was a pro- he gave me some signature smiles and we did a whole shoot before one drop of rain from Sandy arrived. Thanks guys...and welcome to RI!
