E is 4- East Greenwich, RI Portraits, RI Family Photographer
/Miss E turned four this summer so we hit the beach for a few photos. It was really hot that day so I had to let the kids cool off in the ocean for a few pics and then we went in search of some shade. I love Goddard Park for this reason- it's got it all. Beach…woods…bridges. You can get a lot of looks within a short walk. No portrait is complete without including your best friend-- so Ryan jumped in for a few and his blue eyes were stunning!
The S Family- Lincoln, RI Family Portraits, Lincoln, RI Family Photographer
/Jen and I are so similar. She books her family portraits literally 12 months in advance and I LOVE THAT because I'm like that too. Jen likes to have time to plan everything out and for us to have ample time to look at locations. I happened to drive around Lincoln a few months ago and I emailed her saying that I thought I had found a good location. We decided where to meet and then I called her that day and said, "Oh! I found a place with better lighting!" The kids had a great time just running around and enjoying nature. I love that the kids bring their favorite stuffed animals with them. It's so much fun to see how their likes and favorites change year to year!
The C Family- Cranston, RI Family Photography
/Matt and Tara, the brains, beauty and creative forces behind Blueflash Photography, do a family photo swap with us each year. For about a month leading up to it, we exchange all kind of emails that say things like, "Where should we do this?" "I don't know. What do you think?" "I'm not sure. Ask Tara." Then we ask Tara, and she says she isn't sure. LOL. It's tough to find a spot that suits both families, isn't too crowded and has a chance for multiple looks. We ended up in Warwick at Rocky Point and LOVED it. Matt, Tara, Ez and Finn are a great family to work with because they are easy going and happy to have their pictures taken. I think we both go into these sessions with the expectation that we trust each other's judgment and we know they are photos of us, just as we are now. So, if the kids cry or they aren't into standing in one spot, we go with it. Emmett spent half the session running in circles but Matt still got great photos. I guess you just have to embrace the "anything goes," when working with toddlers. I will take candid, fun, laughter and sun flare over posed any day and I'm glad the Celeste family does too!
The P Family- Narragansett, RI Family Portraits
/Deb wanted to make sure her family portraits reflected the place her family loves the most-- down at their family's beach house in Narragansett. We met on a *bright* sunny day and had some more traditional photos done before everyone jumped in the water and splashed away. So. much. fun!!!! The portraits of them running in the water are my faves. I love them so much, I considered having as a canvas in my own house :)
Melissa and Joe- RI Family Photographer, Warwick Family Photography
/Melissa, my gorgeous cousin, wanted to have a family portrait with her boyfriend and a few with their dog, Kenzie. Melissa brought this huge bag of treats and was ready to bribe her for photos but she was great! I think the salt air put her in relaxation mode! I loved this session-- we stayed in one spot, utilized all that the area had to offer and I thought the happiness and love between them was really apparent without any special posing on my end!
Greyson- Cranston, RI Portrait Photography
/Greyson came to my Ahoy, Matey sessions but I wanted to give a special introduction to him. Greyson was born with severe damage to his optic nerve. He will never be able to see. His mom, Jessica, told me she was not sure he would know where to look for the photos but that he loves to dance. We put on some Taylor Swift and these photos are the result of the dance party that happened! His mom and dad seem like super people- the kind that are working their butt off to make sure Greyson never has to struggle a day in his life. I really enjoyed meeting them all and I hope we can work together in the future!
To All the Dads- Cranston, RI Portraits, Cranston Photography
/Jon is my son's namesake (his last name is my son's first name). Although he is my husband's second cousin, the two of them are like brothers. Jon was up from Virginia for a visit and asked if they could come by for an updated family portrait. Dads booking portraits = the best. He adores his three kids and there were plenty of great outtakes from the session (bunny ears for days…)
Dawn and Her Girls- Cranston, RI Portrait Photography, RI Photographer
/Dawn contacted me to shoot a special session- both her girls would be home for one weekend and then they were going their separate ways. One daughter was going to Peru and the other to her job in another state. Dawn said she wanted a photograph to remember this time as her daughter's embark on their new lives. I loved the warmth of these three women.
Parker is 1- Cranston, RI Photography, Rhode Island Photographer, Rhode Island Cake Smash Photography
/I apologize in advance for the cuteness overload. Parker is such an awesome kiddo…and you have to know I credit his mom with my first photography lesson. We lived together after college and she was always telling everyone to pose "chin down" when I took their photos. Hahaha! Fast forward a few *maybe more than a few* years...I photographed Parker's newborn session. When mom called to tell me he was turning one…I knew exactly what theme to do (little monsters-- since that is the theme of his room). Heather wasted no time in getting in touch with Kate Caito to get some cake ideas down for a monster smash! Kate literally made the cake have fur. Parker did the best job smashing the cake (I have to say, many times babies are not at all interested in smashing a cake, much to their parent's dismay!) I didn't have to worry with this guy. I was finding little bits of green frosting around the studio for days and each time I did, I smiled!
Sosi is 2- Rhode Island Children's Photography, Rhode Island Children's Photographer, East Greenwich, RI Photography
/Sosi is one adorable little gal. The weather for this session was less than ideal…a little cold, a little not-what-we-were-expecting-the-first-week-of-May…but it didn't matter. She was all smiles! We did these in her backyard and I think that some people underestimate the value of doing photos at their own home. Her mom, Kel, and I knew she would be comfortable and there was a lot of time to haul some large props (read: big bear) out to the woods. We also took out the tricycle, plasma car and other stuffed animals, but I've found that my favorite way to capture kids is just as they are! Happy birthday, Sosi…or shall I say, Emmett's future prom date???
