The B Family- Cranston, RI Family Portraits, RI Photographer, RI Portrait Photography

Melissa and I used to teach together but have been able to keep in touch through photography. Last summer, she contacted me to do some lifestyle newborn photos and this mama was cool as a cucumber. I went to their house the day after she got home. I remember coming home from the hospital and felt like it was just a blur, so I admired her for being so on top of things! I was excited to be back with them for Tyler's first birthday/family photos and we caught some beautiful flowers. It's pretty clear to me that Tyler adores his big sister and I think the feeling is mutual. IMG_7682

Cooper- Cranston, RI Portrait Photography, Cranston, RI Children's Photographer

Alicia is the yin to my artistic yang! She did a beautiful mural on my studio wall (which I will photograph someday soon!) We talk about art all the time, so I love being able to work with her son (who coincidentally takes art class with my son). There were a lot of outtakes from this session-- it quickly went from photos to dance party USA which gives me some hope that my taste in music isn't half bad. IMG_7205

Parker is 1- Cranston, RI Photography, Rhode Island Photographer, Rhode Island Cake Smash Photography

I apologize in advance for the cuteness overload. Parker is such an awesome kiddo…and you have to know I credit his mom with my first photography lesson. We lived together after college and she was always telling everyone to pose "chin down" when I took their photos. Hahaha! Fast forward a few *maybe more than a few* years...I photographed Parker's newborn session. When mom called to tell me he was turning one…I knew exactly what theme to do (little monsters-- since that is the theme of his room). Heather wasted no time in getting in touch with Kate Caito to get some cake ideas down for a monster smash! Kate literally made the cake have fur. Parker did the best job smashing the cake (I have to say, many times babies are not at all interested in smashing a cake, much to their parent's dismay!) I didn't have to worry with this guy. I was finding little bits of green frosting around the studio for days and each time I did, I smiled! IMG_6797

Sosi is 2- Rhode Island Children's Photography, Rhode Island Children's Photographer, East Greenwich, RI Photography

Sosi is one adorable little gal. The weather for this session was less than ideal…a little cold, a little not-what-we-were-expecting-the-first-week-of-May…but it didn't matter. She was all smiles! We did these in her backyard and I think that some people underestimate the value of doing photos at their own home. Her mom, Kel, and I knew she would be comfortable and there was a lot of time to haul some large props (read: big bear) out to the woods. We also took out the tricycle, plasma car and other stuffed animals, but I've found that my favorite way to capture kids is just as they are! Happy birthday, Sosi…or shall I say, Emmett's future prom date???

Thom and Nancy- East Greenwich, RI Wedding

I don't frequently photograph weddings but sometimes I receive referrals from my friends at Blueflash Photography or from clients that have done family photos with me and are passing my name along to other friends and family. This wedding was really special. The Sunday afternoon ceremony and dinner at 1149 was perfect. Thom and Nancy were overjoyed to get married. They had a small wedding and incorporated their friend in by having her sing during the ceremony and Thom's girls be a part of the ceremony as well. Thom's grandkids ran around and one of my favorite pictures of the day is Thom catching a quiet moment alone with his granddaughter. IMG_4748

Olivia and Tony- Providence, RI Engagement Session, Rhode Island Engagement Photography

Olivia and Tony contacted me for some engagement pics here in RI this spring. Their wedding will take place in New York but they wanted some save the date photos. Olivia ordered the most adorable sign for their dog to wear during the photos and were really smart in bringing a friend to take the pup when the photos were done. Then it was time for us to really have fun. We took advantage of all of the nice spots at India Point Park- especially the trees in bloom. It was a beautiful session and I loved Olivia's dress. I wish them all the luck in the world as they plan their big day!

Parker's Newborn Session- Attleboro, MA Newborn Photography

I don't often take newborn photos. I have mostly had the opportunity to do so for friends and family. When Heather called to ask me to take some newborn photos of Parker, I was immediately brought back to when Emmett was first born and how much those images meant to me. Even though I took them myself and none of them include us as a family, I will treasure them forever. I knew I wanted to make Heather and Marc's as special as possible because they are both special people to me. We cranked the space heater up to 80 and shot these photos in a 5x5 area of her home that had great lighting. If you saw behind-the-scenes footage, you'd laugh at me standing in a corner with a bouquet of balloons under one arm to corral them while trying to get the shot-- it was so much fun and I'm so honored to have families ask me to capture something that is such a small window of time. Parker slept like a champ and was quiet and alert when he was awake. Absolutely adorable! Introducing... Parker!

The "D" Family- Cranston, RI Family Portraits

The "D" Family came up from CT on a cold day but we were determined to make the most of the weather which was crisp and sunny and still had no snow on the ground! The kids were awesome and we shuttled them back and forth to the warm car in between their "solo" shots. These photos definitely made me smile while editing because they were so filled with personality and charisma!

Up Close and Personal- Cranston, RI Portrait Photography, Rhode Island Portrait Photography

Many people ask me what props they should bring to a photo shoot. I think that props can help tell the story of your child at a certain age. You will love looking back in twenty years and seeing photos of your baby with their favorite stuffed animal...but at the same time, I'm a fan of minimalist portraits. I love getting a crisp, clean portrait of a child's face. Look at these little cuties who allowed me to capture them, just as they are.

The Gendron Family- Cranston, RI Family Portraits

Matt and Julie wanted to do a Christmas card photo with the vibrant fall leaves as a background. They love Roger Williams Park (as do I- Bryan says I should pay it rent since I use it so often) so I knew just the tree to go to. Brewster tagged along as well. He's quite versed in having his photo taken and was very regal :) And PS- if you know Matt, you know the photo of him with Tommy on his shoulders is the quintessential Matty-G face.

Nana and Her Girls- Cranston, RI Portrait Photography, Rhode Island Children's Photography

Rosie (another teacher!!) had her nieces visiting from Utah and asked me to photograph them with her sister and her mother. Her mom, now 80, knitted these delicate and colorful sweaters for the girls. We went down near the water in Edgewood on a beautiful day Thanksgiving weekend and did some portraits of the girls with their Nana. It was beautiful to see these three generations together. Corey, Jill and Leo- Rhode Island Family Portraits

On the brink of the hurricane, this fearless family met up with me at the park for some photos. They were so relaxed, having lots of fun and Leo did a great job posing. Sometimes three year olds become shy but Leo was a pro- he gave me some signature smiles and we did a whole shoot before one drop of rain from Sandy arrived. Thanks guys...and welcome to RI!

Matt, Tara and Ezra- Rhode Island Family Portraits, Jamestown, RI Family Photography

To say that I think Matt, Tara and Ezra are awesome is an understatement. Matt is owner of Blueflash Photography (home of the Blue Cube!) and Tara is the creativity behind The Tiny Hummingbird. I really admire both of them. Tara used to teach in Cranston too (it all comes full circle with us teachers!) Bryan and I had talked to them right after Emmett was born about doing family photos together. We met in Jamestown at Plum Point. It was really, really sunny and so we used the bridge for some cover. We had a great time- Matt got some awesome shots of us as a new family and I was able to capture them in a natural, relaxed way- playing and laughing with Ez. We also took photos of each other for our websites- so make sure to check mine out here!

Bridget- Rhode Island Portraiture

Bridget had some portraits taken a while back (like, I-was -still-pregnant-while-back!!! I have been terrible about blogging...but I'm excellent at Facebooking haha!!) and I loved her honesty. She told me through email that it had been years since she had her picture taken and she wasn't even sure she wanted to but she wanted to give her mom a picture. We talked about location, wardrobe and I think Bridget's natural cool and beautiful clothes were a perfect combination. We had a great time- the hour flew by and we even talked about doing it again!

Gabriella Turns 2!

Melissa is a good friend of mine and also a colleague. She is the type of teacher you want your own children to have. We also worked together at the public library, so I've known her for many years. She asked me to do her daughter's 2 year old pictures and we got absolutely beautiful weather at one of my favorite spots- the museum at Roger Williams Park. Armed with a tutu and tiara (and several wardrobe changes), Gabriella was ready to rock! I can't wait to see her outfit at 3 years old! :)

I have been on break!

Hi all,As many of you know, I've been on break from photography while being home with my new little photography subject. He was born six weeks ago and I just feel like I'm getting back to the land of the living. There were a few shoots I did before he was born that I never got to posting, so here are a few little peeks of what I did in January.
